james-blythAfter serving a 5 year Chef apprenticeship at the Central Hotel in Glasgow then moving into catering management contracted to RBS, BP and Standard Life for some 8 years owner James Blyth decided to open his first Sandwich Bar & Deli in the heart of Edinburgh’s financial district. Named Simply Sandwiches it was launched in Spring 1993 from the first day of opening demand from local businesses grew for platters of sandwiches, finger buffets, canapés, business lunches and as a result an outside catering business expanded to meet demand. As a result of happy clients and positive referrals, demand for private parties and domestic orders also increased steadily with engagements, weddings, birthday parties, wakes and other family gatherings became a regular occurrence. The retail side of the business proved so successful that a second branch of Simply Sandwiches followed 2 years later in Lothian Road and was busy for many years. In 2000 an opportunity to sell both shops arose allowing us to fully concentrate on building Club Class Catering as a very successful Edinburgh based outside caterer, with many of the same Clients from its inception.

James still sources all of his food locally and orders are prepared by him and his staff freshly just for your needs, providing everything from simple platters of freshly made sandwiches to hand made canapés and business lunches to our corporate clients as well as preparing food to order for the domestic market; Weddings, wakes, birthday parties and all family gatherings are all expertly catered for.

food hygiene certificate logoEach year we demonstrate our commitment to quality & food hygiene by being certified by the Food Standards Agency for Scotland, their job is to promote safe food and healthy eating. Their Eat Safe Award provides an incentive to food businesses to strive for food hygiene and food safety management standards beyond those required by law, so for consumers it provides a recognisable sign of excellence in standards of food hygiene. You can see our results posted on the FSA’s website.

When you are making and serving food to the public either for business users or for party and celebratory food it is important not only to maintain the minimum standards but exceeding them ought to be the norm.

James Blyth said “we have always demonstrated a commitment to quality, and that has to start at the very beginning of the food preparation process. Retaining our food hygiene certificate is important to us as it definitely helps to protect our customers and food preparation is serious for either business lunches or for parties and other events. Not all outside caterers are prepared to go through this process, but we feel that it helps set us apart but not every outside catering firm is run by a former chef“.
